President Buhari’s bodyguard allegedly captured for having link with Boko Haram Sect
A bodyguard of President Muhammadu Buhari has allegedly been arrested for having close ties with Boko Haram militants. As indicated by Vanguard, Hassan Aminu who was a personal bodyguard to Buhari, was taken into custody by security operatives to be interrogated.
The presidency, however, could not be reached for comment regarding the reports. The claim was alarming as it suggested that Boko Haram managed to manipulate itself to get extremely close to the president.
The Frontiersnews, however, reported that the presidency had totally redesignd the presidential security following the arrest of the Aminu. Aminu was said to be linked to the leader of Ansaru Islamic Sect, Khalid Albarnawi, second in command to Abubakar Shekau in the hierarchy of the Boko Haram sect. A top security source who spoke to Frontiersnews correspondent, on condition of anonymity said:
“GOD WAS JUST ON OUR SIDE. IF HE HAD KILLED THE PRESIDENT WHAT WOULD WE HAVE TOLD NIGERIANS.” THE SOURCE STATED FURTHER THAT “FOLLOWING THE ARREST, THE NSA’S OFFICE ALONG WITH OTHER SECURITY CHIEFS HAVE TAKEN IT AS A POINT OF DUTY TO ENSURE THAT SECURITY AGENTS SERVING IN THE PRESIDENTIAL GUARD ARE DOCUMENTED IN DETAILS TO AVOID ANY UGLY SITUATION”. “IT IS NOT JUST ANY SECURITY AGENT THAT WILL HENCEFORTH SERVE AS PRESIDENTIAL BODY GUARD. WE HAVE TAKEN TIME TO KNOW THE FAMILY BACKGROUND AND SOCIAL INFLUENCE OF ANY SECURITY OPERATIVE SERVING IN THE PRESIDENTIAL VILLA BECAUSE YOU CANNOT KNOW THOSE WHO ARE SYMPATHETIC TOWARD THE CAUSE OF BOKO HARAM IN THE SECURITY STRUCTURE”
